Proper maintenance is the key to insuring the everlasting beauty of your bamboo flooring investment. A properly maintained floor significantly increases the likelihood of a satisfied customer and the floors continuing beauty. Regardless of how the floor has been finished, there are certain steps that must be taken to maintain the beauty of all types of floors. The following are some excellent guidelines for maintaining your new bamboo floor.
Routine Cleaning
- Wipe up spills and spots when they occur.
- Take care when moving appliances or heavy furniture.
- Rotate furniture and mats.
- It is advised to vacuum, dust or sweep each day to remove all grit and dirt particles.
- When mopping your floor, to obtain a non-smear finish, it is advised to place a small amount of methylated spirits in with the hot water and always wring the mop out thoroughly. WASH WITH DAMP MOP ONLY - DO NOT WET MOP. NO MOPPING SHOULD OCCUR AT ALL UNTIL A MINIMUM OF 48 HOURS AFTER INSTALLATION.
- Place doormats at external entrances.
- All rugs used over the floor should allow the floors to breathe. Avoid using rubber or plastic backed rugs that won’t allow ventilation.
- It is recommended that floor protector pads of soft felt or similar material are used on the bottoms of furniture legs. These should also be clean of grit.
- Do not use waxes, oil, soap, or other cleaners on the floor. The use of these products can make refurbishing difficult.
- To remove glue deposits use undiluted methylated spirits.
Long Term Maintenance
Ceramic finishes will eventually show wear patterns from surface scratching and high traffic areas can become dull to look at. When this happens it is time to re-coat or restore the finish. Always follow the floor finish manufacturer's recommendation and engage the services of a professional floor finisher experienced in Bamboo Flooring. |
